Become a Food Justice Hero this Giving Tuesday!

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. Vancouver Neighbourhood Food Networks work tirelessly towards a brighter food future in Vancouver, where everyone has access to affordable, sufficient, safe and nutritious food. We know that the complex issue of food insecurity does not have one magic solution. We believe that the current food system requires a transformative change, and we invite you to be a part of the food system change movement by becoming a monthly donor here.

Neighbourhood Food Networks help support and steward local food cultures in 15 city neighbourhoods by fostering community food access, building relationships and partnerships, developing local skills and knowledge, and creating opportunities for meaningful participation. We come together to amplify our efforts and advocate for systems change through an interconnected network united by a shared aspiration for a brighter food future in Vancouver.

With the dire current state of the food system, including rising costs of food and devastating environmental impacts, Vancouver Neighbourhood Food Networks are getting more politically involved by raising awareness, connecting with elected officials and advocating for meaningful change. In the past few years, we co-hosted the Food Justice Townhall leading up to the municipal election, led a municipal advocacy campaign to make food security a city budget priority in 2023 and 2024, supported nationwide direct action for healthy school food and migrant farm workers, and covered such topics as cultural food assets, the Universal Healthy School Food Program and basic income as a solution to food insecurity. Vancouver Neighbourhood Food Networks is now a leading partner in the newly formed Vancouver Food Justice Coalition that aims to mobilize community power through a community organizing model towards food systems change.  Our Communications and Policy Development Coordinator has been critical in driving this important work forward. Unfortunately, securing funding for this position from traditional sources can be challenging.  That is why, as a highly grassroots organization, we depend on your kind support to help sustain this momentum.  Help us reach our goal of raising $12,000 to fund a part-time Communications and Policy Development position for another year!

This Giving Tuesday, support our systems change efforts toward a brighter food future in Vancouver by becoming one of 50 monthly donors at $20 month!  Donate here.

And as our thank you, all donors will be entered to win one of two Dinner for Two, valued at $100 at the highly anticipated, soon-to-be-opened Tayybeh Restaurant – a unique social enterprise dedicated to bringing you a unique dining experience courtesy of the most amazing newcomer Syrian women chefs. Tayybeh’s mission is to empower newcomer Syrian women chefs while highlighting their delicious, healthy, and unique Syrian fare.
